If I could have the fill anywhere I wanted it would be on front of the hood like older Deere's. That limits capacity though and mid-frame isn't so bad. Dad and his cousins always complained about their 1486 being a hassle over the Deeres. When we were running a 4255, 4850, and two 4955s you could easily fill two at one stop if not three if you parked them right.
I'm not sure how wiggling along the frame or ruining your hips getting on the front axle is worse than step on the drawbar and stand on the PTO shield.
