Subject: RE: DEF in Fuel???

NW Ohio,near Findlay
A very good friend of mine did this on the first fuel fill up on a Duramax 3.0. This man is no stranger to a diesel pickup, having a ton Duramax prior to this one, with the under the hood DEF tank.
Was at night, strange to him fuel truck stop, DEF and fuel side by side, and of course, both fuel fill caps side by side. It just happened, accidents are that way. He panicked, new what he did, semis behind him, had to move the truck, so he pulled it to the side, and it stopped. These new trucks as so stupid, you can not move them without starting them, everything is locked up.
In hind site, maybe he could have pulled the fuse on the tank pump, but it didn't happen. He just didn't know what to do. Called the wrecker, skidded on to the flat bed wrecker, hauled it to dealer.
Brand new truck with 495 miles, new bed cover, on the way to family vacation spot, dead at the dealer with no parts available. For them to fix it, was a total replacement of the fuel system, and no parts available for months. It was pure hell for him, got some insurance money, but did him no good, had to be done there way for the warranty on the truck. He never talked to anyone other than that DEALER. That dealer would not let anyone else touch it, was under warranty. My friend was so mentally stressed, we worried about him.
Truck set for a few weeks, finally they gave him a offer to trade it for a new GAS truck, move on with his life, no one hurt. Again, why would they design a system that way. Someone could just walk by the truck, flip up the fuel cap, a bottle of DEF in the fuel and truck is done.
I watched this truck at the dealership set for another two weeks or so, then it was gone. My question, what did they do with it? I would bet the farm, someone at that dealership knew it wasn't hurt that bad, wanted that truck. If my friend only started it, moved it off to the side, and the warning light for the fuel came on, truck stopped. The filter surely stopped the DEF before it did the damage to the complete fuel system. But they pulled the scare tactic, if may have even ruined the motor, can't tell until we replace the fuel system. So what DID the dealer do? Bet money, truck is fine now, someone at the dealership has a cheap, very expensive truck. Sure like to see who has it, truck has a add on that I will see on the road some day.
