It's not that we don't like interstates, we just like to meander and see the local sites. It allows me to pullover about anywhere so she can take pictures. We also find local places to eat. We don't stop at chains unless it's a regional chain that isn't in MO. Besides, we both take water pills and it's a lot easier to stop away from the interstate. When traveling locally, the interstate is usually the way to go.
Someone asked about our route to Wenatchee. The plan is to go to Macon MO, take 36 to Marysville KS, head north to Hastings NE and overnight at Grand Island NE. Then head to Hemingsford NE and end up in Casper/Evensville WY. The next day is thru Cody WY and Gardiner MT to Livingston MT. From Livingston thru Missoula MT to Lewiston ID. Then thru Pomeroy and Othello WA to Wenatchee.
In the April of 2025 we traveled to Astoria OR, Port Charles WA and Mt Rainier NP. North Cascades was still snowed in at that time, so I promised her we'd come back. We've been thru a lot of the NW over the years.
17 years ago we cruised to Alaska out of Vancouver but we flew into Spokane WA, rented a car and drove across WA to Seattle before joining the tour. That's the year the plane sucked goose into the engine landing in St. Louis. We were delayed 4 hours and missed the connection out of Denver to Spokane. Ended up spending the night in the Denver airport instead of the Holiday Inn in Spokane. Before that we flew into Portland and drove down the coast to San Francisco and back thru central CA and OR.
