Cleveland, MS. Own small farm near Booneville, MS
IIRC Deere put the fuel tank up front to 1) keep the fuel cooler and to 2) get it further away from a source of ignition. The three digit, hand clutch, two cylinder Deeres had the fuel tank above the engine right in front of the operator’s station. We had a 520 gas that developed a leak in the sediment bowl. If you forgot to turn off the fuel when shutting down a hot engine it could result in a fire. It did exactly that on at least one occasion.
