Subject: RE: Sisal twine- plastic twine

SW Ohio
Plastic, (and I can't comment on sisal, it has been gone here for 40 years), is properly defined by the knot strength, for instance 130 (for round bales only) 170,210,240, 450, etc. The physical size of it does not vary much like you think it would with different ratings, 170 and 450 are " close" to the same diameter . You can even get it in different colors!! It comes in different size balls, meaning the length per ball. Those who swear by 9600 twine do not have a clue what they are talking about. If you think twine from a machinery dealer is "better", you better think again, It all comes from twine makers that do little else but make twine (or other plastic items). If you only need a small amount you can get by using the farm chain store stuff, but if you need quantity, search out a supplier that sells by the pallet or more, it will be much cheaper and you will have choices. For small squares I would go with 170 minimum and 240 is overkill.
