As long as the pump and pony motor you find have similar RPM and HP ratings, it'll be fine.
Standard dump truck wet kits usually spin less than 1000 RPM so a direct couple to a gas motor will over speed it. Match up RPM and HP ratings and it will work. Hyd pumps don't really care what or how they get turned, as long as its the right speed and you have minimal flow restrictions.
