Winter annuals in the rotation make the problem worse unless you want to do full on pres then still 2 post applications on fallow ground. Could till it, but next to impossible to grow good dryland corn and soybeans with full tillage "here."
I cultivated for my first time besides hilling for flood irrigation the other day. Was going after volunteer corn in a corn field. It was fun but I was less than impressed with the job that I was doing. Probably need wider sweeps. These were probably 18 inches? We have several 8 and 12 row cultivators. We could do it if we needed to. We will not do it until we need to. 3 passes of overlapping residuals works much better and is cheaper. I think he ment winter wheat. There would be no fallow but you could get 2years of wheat in our country and keep the stubble clean of WH for the next crop. |
