Tillage begets more tillage, especially when talking about using a disk ripper with parabolic shanks and wide points.
After you run a ripper, you will run a FC or finisher to smooth it out. After you run a ripper to break up the "compaction" you will run a ripper again to break up the compaction that happens when you drive over it the next time.
Other than occasionally ripping high traffic areas/paths (I refuse to rip the 1/2 acre right in front of a field driveway that gets used to load trucks) I would rather not plant into the dry fluff that ripping produces. We have a nice little Landoll ripper that I'd just as soon not use.
