Good question.....for the most part we try to time cultivation so that we only go one time and do it right before canopy.....and then hope we don't get a rain on it so that grass doesn't grow. There has been a time or two where we have had to hit fields a second time (it goes real fast) because an untimely rain happened. When we do seed corn we have to cultivate it a bit earlier than we like because inbreds tend to be a brittle so we do put Warrant down after that. The worst cultivating disaster I've had was a few years ago. The previous years crop had been hailed to the ground in June and I chose not to replant it and also mismanaged 40 acres that were a waterhemp jungle. In 2023 I planted beans. I managed it with my regular Xtend program but instead of spraying it twice with Xtend or Liberty I choose to cultivate it 3 times. Basically we hit it once a week beginning June 15. The field was spotless through harvest and has been in corn since. |
