South Central MN | Used to cultivate years ago but rarely see anyone do that here. I would need to upgrade to a bigger cultivator to match the planter and don't know if the tractor that used to pull the old one would be able to handle going from an 8R to 12R 30". The other tractor that I plant with seems kind of tight on the rows so would have to figure out how to get the front tires moved a little. Don't want to move them out wider as I think that would put too much stress on the front axle. (6588 2+2 and they were known for busting the front axle if you put duals on it, sounds like having the wheels set wide would be just as bad.)
Past couple of years has been too wet to do anything with a cultivator most of the time.
One off the wall odd thought I had was some sort of permanent cover in the field (like that lawn clover) and a good row cleaner setup on the planter and possibly banding some herbicide and pre-emerge right over top of the row, then having a rig set up to mow between the rows later. | |
