North Central Indiana | We’ve got an 8 row JD cultivator, it does get some action each year. Would be able to and willing to get it out and run a bunch of acres if necessary. My guess, as a mid 20 year old farmer, is it will be a necessity on a large scale again in my lifetime to cultivate crops due to herbicide restrictions and resistance. Of course I could be way off too. But honestly with RTK and perfect rows and auto path guidance, cultivating is cheaper than some sprayer passes. Layered residuals sprayed from drops later in the season can be fairly effective following cultivation as well. And it’s an efficiency loss to some degree but going back to spraying off the cultivator could work here imo. I dream somedays of this, we’ve got 3 4020s. Could put ATU300s on them with canopies and an 8 row cultivator and cover some pretty good acres every day. Sidedress with jets on the first pass, spray on the second pass. Spray the first residual off the planter. Beans we’d have to switch to 30” rows, but if we did that I’d be growing all non gmo beans | |
