Took a 300lb hog to the butcher. Could of sold and got $210. Butcher charged $350 to butcher. So $560 cut up on 190lbs. So $3 a pound roughly. Took a fat steer weight of 1500 butcher charged $1240. 1500 live worth $3400. $4640 total divided by 575 lbs is $8 a lb. So little over double. Me personally would grab the beef all day long at that spread. I love me some home grown brats. Pork burgers not a fan of. So all go to brat or kielbasa. Takes same gas hauling either. Beef will have buyers and so will pork and chicken. If anything high beef prices will raise the price of all other meats especially when our dollars weak and other countries can afford. It will get worse for the consumers before it gets better the way the cattle and hog market clips farmers for trying to produce in a grosbeak market. Priority’s it will come to. Six pack of pop and pork burgers or prime steak with water. When we get to pork burgers and water watch out below.
