east central ND | If you’re going to use the machine to just load, and close up to the machine, I don’t think you would want anything over 2 yard heaped with dirt. If it’s very, very light material maybe a bit more. It’s hard to say what will work for you , even the stick length on your machine will make a huge difference. The biggest volume buckets I have seen around here are used for loading corn out of a ground pile. But corn is light compared to dirt.
I had a really old 200 size machine (45,000 lbs). the 32” bucket was a nice fit. The 60” wide ditching bucket was shorter and shallower, so it did not hold much more.
I now have a 250 size machine with a 36” very heavy duty Cat bucket and a manual thumb. Great for trees, hard digging, and dense dirt. I also have a 48” bucket, unknown manufacturer, with a smooth front. It’s not as tall as the 36”, so it holds a bit more, but not a lot. But when the boom and stick are extended all the way out, you can sure tell the extra weight of the “bit more” material is there.
I have acquired an old wheel loader bucket, supposed to be 2.25 yard. It’s wide, but shallow depth. I want the make it into a ditch cleaning bucket to move snow, silt, and sod, I think it would make my machine tippy it was full of dirt. | |
