Subject: RE: Chisel size?

So a disc chisel? That’s a big tractor for me. Check with neighbors with similar tractor, chisel, disc chisel. The shovels matter, depth.
Often you will have a neighbor with one they are considering getting rid of. I mentioned wanting a new disc for newer tractor. He had a 496 he was going to sell. I did 10 acres of his field with it and 25 acres of mine. Had a good idea what it pulled like. Bought a 3900.w/new blades.
My chisel is small. 100 hp with 2” points shallow on soybeans. 3” twist, heavier ground 150 FWA w/duals is working at times.
If strait chisel, or cultivator. I buy slightly bigger, rather than smaller. I can remove a shank from either end, or 3 ;) springtooth bogged down for rwd w/duals fairly often. Took off 3 either side. *3’ narrower* it went anywhere I should. Traded for FWA put them back on. Disc/chisel. I guess you *could* take one off either side, double disc between. But I went smaller, faster ground speed under most conditions.
