Better visibility, if they have to get on and off the mower to move branches it is much easier to do so.
I have even seen some that are self-propelled walk behinds that carry the operator on a little cart they can remove and walk behind the mower in tight areas.
Not sure what the actual practical advantages are for sure, though, that is just what popped into my head.
