So, my uncle and I have farmed together for 25 years. Everything has been 50/50, as far as seed, chemical, fertilizer, fuel and cash rent. We do own some equipment at 50/50 but the majority is mine. After about 70% of the crop was put in this year, he decided to quit, without notice after one of his tractors had a major breakdown. I’ve done signed farms up at the FSA at 50/50 but they contacted me saying he wanted them all switched over in my name. So, that just me going back down there to sign for 100% share. On the other hand, he’s not paid and not been billed for alot of chemicals, fertilizer and seed, yet. I don’t feel like I should concur all his part of his bills, because he decided to quit and leave me with the entirety of labor, to finish a crop, maintain a crop and get a crop out. I didn’t budget for this prior to the start of the year. By signing as 100% share taker at the FSA and crop insurance, does that in anyway make me responsible for his half of remaining bills?

1. Get the screaming and shouting out of your system right now, as long as it takes.
2. Let the emotion go….
3. Focus intently on the business. This is your chance for leadership going forward. Make good business decisions, based upon facts and economics, not emotion. Treat yourself and him fairly. Focus intently on the business. This is your chance to prove who you are, as a person and as a business manager?

Focus on good and fair business decisions.

Good luck to you !
