Yes, you steered from the corner of the hay rack. You set engine speed and the gear for the tractor. There is a long pipe connected to the ball of the tractor hand clutch (from a hay mower sickle clamp. I'm guessing). There is a brake on the steering wheel. You are going slow enough you can carry a bale to the back of the wagon. I baled with that setup a couple times. It's better than not getting the hay baled.

My Dad made a lot of inventions to make life easier on the farm and on his job as a plumber, furnace installer, and washing machine tech. His boss and him went to a Speed Queen washer school. The teacher said to fix one problem you had to remove the drum. Dad piped up and said "No, he had made a tool to reach up around the drum so he could fix the problem". His boss told us after Dad died. He thought it was funny. Dad was 6 feet 4 inches tall. If he told you something, you believed it!
