NWC Ohio | Depending on what one you have, you could change out the purge valve on the bottom. Otherwise the last one I changed (pre covid) was fairly cheap I thought for a new or rebuilt one from the truck shop. They had them on hand. While you’re at it, you might as well service the air dryer as well with a new desiccant filter/cartridge as well.
You will be putting more moisture (and oil if your compressor is getting a bit slobbery) into the entire air system and all brake valves on your truck and trailer. Sure you may be ok when it’s warm for a while but when it gets cold enough to freeze you might start getting issues with valves freezing from the moisture your introducing into the system by bypassing the air dryer now. I would be fixing it ASAP. To me, your bypass is a fix it to get it out of the field and get home type repair, not a fix to last the week or rest of season repair.
ETA: if your air drier is rusty around the clamp that helps mount it to the tuck, they like to rust out around that band. So when you take the band off to change the desiccant filter the rust flakes off and now you have a pinhole and an air leak. So if yours is pretty rusty, than I’d suggest just swapping the whole air drier out for a new or rebuilt one.
