| When growing okra as a vegetable in the garden, I have always spaced out the plants (1 foot or more) and the stems end up getting really thick and woody. My rationale for planting a much higher population is to keep the stems thin and less likely to damage a cutter bar... and improve weed control. I will be cultivating the okra and want to develop an in-row canopy as fast as possible.
The main variety I will be using is Clemson Spineless but I will also be trying a few other varieties and 1 hybrid.
I am sure that yields will be lower planting so late but I mainly trying to fill in an unutilized space and learn how to grow okra for seed.
Thanks again
