NWC Ohio | Hands down this is the way to go. Matter of fact most replacements are now multi-piece and are spliced together with these. Much much easier and cheaper to ship and handle this way. Local dealer should have on hand. Shoup and aftermarket company’s sell as well. Lickity-Split Splice repair kit, or Sickle Repair kit should get you some leads. I’ve never had one break.
To answer your question, the last sickle that I had to weld would break right on or near the weld again. Welds aren’t made to flex. I had to weld the sickle to the sickle section to get reasonable results from welding. The closer the break is to the drive end, the more stress and abuse it will have to endure. 30’ is the longest sickle that I have ever had to weld, 15’ was the shortest. | |
