Have a 40x80 round roof barn similar to what you describe. Great Grandpa built in 1957. Main portion timber frame sawed from trees in woods. Several 10x10's 40' long one piece. Ends were balloon framed with custom laminated arch rafters. Originally had 3 tab shingles which were prone to wind damage. My Dad and me put T lock shingles on in 87 and 90 off home built scaffolding and rope system from top down and repaired a section on the NW corner that was proine to being wind stripped. Top is actually flat enough to walk on. Those did not last. Had Amish strip them and replace with T locks again. Same story asphalt shingles are trash and poor quality compared to 70's and earlier. Meanwhile had been replacing all other shingled roofs with standing seam hidden fastener style metal rolled on site by Amish crew that had their own forming machine. They said they could possibly do that style on round roof but I would not be happy with wrinkling and waviness. They said they could get some lower profile ribbed material and felt they could make a sheet go top to bottom in one piece. I was skeptical because of the compound curve at the bottom. They got a sample sheet and tried it. Made it top to almost bottom but the bottom flare out was too quick a transition. To overcome that they fastened a 2x4 in the deepest part to take out the compound in and back out. You would never know by looking that it was in there. Also retained the metal 90° edge cover to prevent wind from getting under the sheets on the ends and peeling anything off. The 90° gets the wind started past the edge where it can't get under any of the sheets. There will never be asphalt/fiberglass shingles on anything here ever again. They are all junk. Those promised warranties are worthless because they have figured out to sell shingles then go bankrupt or rename themselves about the time the warranties start coming in. Here are a few pics of what I am talking about ranging 1987-2019
