Elizabethtown, ky | We’ve been blessed with plenty of rain this spring. Farms are wetter than we’ve ever seen.
I’ve got a farm that has a heavy cover of dead wild barley, it’s thick as carpet and it’s keeping the ground from drying out. A Salford won’t really touch it, and trying to keep a disc out of it to lessen compaction.
Anybody have experience with this? What’s the best way to get rid of the cover to get the ground where the sun can get to the soil.
Also on a side note, does anyone use strip till on wetter natured ground, does it help dry it out? Could make strips In the fall when it’s dryer. | |
