One hangup i have with AA or CR is the constant reaffirmation of who I was. Identity drives your behavior not the other way around. Addict is no longer my identity so I refuse to put that title on my name. Its a chapter in my story but not the ending.
Support is necessary to beat any addiction so find what works for you but it takes proximity and vulnerability for accountability to happen

Im of the opinion that a person and only them can make up their mind .
I will say it still crosses my mind , id like to have a beer .
I am of course not going to .
I do use what my grandad used to say - He said if i drink today all the other days i did not drink are wasted .
Could i get in the pickup right now and get a beer ? Sure i could . Who would know? I would thats what matters to me . For me its about my opinion of myself .
The second part is what if a fire or accident happened and i was drinking ? The community depends on just a few of us compared to the area we cover . I figure if you sign up
You are under a duty to go . Could not drive firetruck drinking . -or should not . Nor should a man be in a potentally dangerous siuation not at 100% . Its hard enough to respond dog tired and sober .
I use a combination of i guess farmer sense and AA big book .
At the end of the day every man has to find a path that works for him . |
