North Central Illinois | Boy, I guess you were standing pretty tall at the keyboard and feeling pretty self righteous when you pressed the "submit" button. If you chose to stay at home 24/7 and it worked out well, good for you. I think it very close minded of you to suggest that those of us who used daycare from time to time are bad parents. There are some really great daycare programs out there. By the same token there are some pretty bad ones too. Parents need to do their homework before making a decision on daycare. If you talk to a lot of preschool and kindergarten teachers you will find that many of them agree that a quality daycare program has the child much better prepared for school than kids that have been at home for the first five years. Here again, those same teachers will tell you that they can tell immediately the children who went to a bad daycare. It is a slippery slope to be sure. It can work though. You just need to do your homework. I think a nice mix is daycare a couple three days a week and mom, dad, or grandparents the rest of the time. The bottom line is that every situation is different. Many women nowdays want to have a career and be a mom too. There is nothing wrong with that just because that isn't the way our parents did it. Don't judge those of us who went the daycare route. Our child has turned out super. | |
