SE MN | I don't like tariffs either but I'm struggling with a few of your points.
I know I'm not the brightest guy on here but how do tariffs bring in revenue to China if they are so harmful to an economy? Per your analysis wouldn't they bring in even more revenue if they dropped their tariffs?
Are the announced plants that are opened by foreign companies bringing in foreign nationals to work there? I can see where that would be a real problem but if US citizens are going to work in those plants how is that bad? And even if foreign nationals are brought in to work these factories don't they pay taxes and spend money in the economy? Assuming they have legal work permits or visas?
Again I apologize for my ignorance, but if we don't want our products we export to be tariffed and asking nicely hasn't done the trick what should we do assuming we don't want other nations to dictate our trade policies? I am not sure how you run your farm but I don't rely on what deals the neighbors make at the equipment dealer or E plant to to influence my purchases or sales so I'll pass on the TPP seeing as we are the largest economy in the world. Do you know a lot of 20,000 acre farmers that partner with 500 acre farmers to get a better deal somewhere that ties them to dealing with 500 acre farmers decisions for a long period of time? I don't but that could just be a "here" thing....
Last question. Am I to understand that you advocate for giving up our sovereignty to maintain the price of lettuce?
Edit to add: Could you please address the very real concern for our friends in Brazil who must be facing some very dire situations with the value of their currency falling so precipitously?
