In 1998, an atv accident led to an 18,000 gallon propane tank bleve in Albert City Iowa. Unfortunately two firefighters were killed. That incident is probably included in every departments traing program now, I know it is ours.

I live 5 miles from where the Albert City explosion happened. I knew all of the firemen. Very tragic. All I will put over the net is the pop offs were for anhydrous instead of propane. It was dark out, there was a big flash followed by darkness and when the big boom reached us our back door flexed and the house shook. There was no fire following the explosion, all that followed was darkness and silence according to a fireman I talked to.
