The brace post or "deadman" doesn't do a whole lot. Just has to resist bending with the brace pushing, and the wire pulling. The longer H-brace helps the end post stay in the ground. We always put about 8' between the end and brace.
+1 if you can't get your corner very deep definitely make the brace longer.
