The brace post or "deadman" doesn't do a whole lot. Just has to resist bending with the brace pushing, and the wire pulling. The longer H-brace helps the end post stay in the ground. We always put about 8' between the end and brace.
This is the answer. Keeps the end/corner post from getting levered out of the ground. I'd say that's especially necessary in sandy ground. I had an anchor post (18" telephone pole buried 8 ft deep) that's been in the heavy clay ground 30 years get pulled up 6+ inches this Easter weekend in a flood. |
