When my wife worked at the bank she had a male customer who sent every penny he had to some “woman” in “Florida” he had met on the internet. He is now living on what little he gets from the taxpayers. When his money ran out “she” disappeared.
Widow lady in the church gave all her money to a “man” who was stuck overseas whose “assets” had been seized by the government where he was. Even though several other church members, including myself and her children were telling her it was a scam. When she could no longer afford an apartment she was forced to move into an assisted living facility where all her SS check goes directly to the facility. Her children had to take away her smartphone so she could not have access to internet, email, or text messages. She doesn’t like it, but it’s for her own protection.
Loneliness makes people vulnerable to these scammers. There just might be a special place in hell for people who abuse vulnerable people. |
