Gottcha - I did a search on prong. Those are the small metal devices that can be used to hold pages of paper together. You punch two holes in each sheet of the proper spacing and thread the prong through the sheets and fold over the tabs to hold the pages together.

Since they are made of thin metal I was thinking that maybe someway you had used them as a gasket. At least I now know the correct name for those devices.

The O-ring I tried was quite large in all dimensions. I think it was designed for a filter on a sprayer since I got it at a sprayer place. A smaller one and tightened less might work.
