Tommy as a volunteer fireman you should be getting you an ice maker in firehouse. Really the only reason a lot of the fireman on volunteer rooster around here is to get freebies. Everyone in the valley of the dept. next to us has a key to shed for ice for coolers all summer. We got to get you a lot of freebies for your dedicated service you provide the house. Plus, as a card-carrying member of the dept. they should be providing you longnecks. Sorry I just remembered you quit them, guess they can provide your energy drinks or something.
Yup I spent my time on volunteer fire, kept brush truck at my ranch. I did all maintenance and even put gas in the rig. County never had money for tank or fuel delivery out my way. I footed the bill for a long time. But hey I got a pair of the famous fireman's turn out boots with cool pull-on handles. Sure, was great at calving time to slip them on fast to assist a difficult labor in need. Got to add our motto was we never lost a foundation.
I guess we are doing it all wrong , it costs all of is a little of somthing to be on department , most of it in my case is mechanical work .I can see how it might attract some free loaders . And yep other departments have those guys that carry radio , wear T shirt, cap all the time . heck our guys dont evean wear the T shirt to fires . we only have 1 each .We dont really socialize much , 1 meeting a month . We see each other often enough on fires . I guess we say what we need to then . Im at the fire house a bit checking air in tires making sure pumps work ect . I do know what you are talking about though . one station i know of is a local hangout . My cheif is about business . About all we do is run calls . We might visit a few minutes after a call - if its not 3 am when we get back . Outs is definatley not a hangout . |
