| Fomesafen can ding up ragweed, but it’s really not your best option here. It’s a PPO inhibitor hot on broadleaves but it also carries significant crop injury risk, especially near your corn. With that wand or boom sprayer, drift or volatization could be a concern even on a calm day, especially if temps are high. Plus, fomesafen has some carryover risk you may not want along that edge, especially if you rotate anything sensitive in.
Since you’ve got Enlist beans nearby and a quarter mile stretch to manage, you’ve got a few better options that I don't think I saw in the previous replies:
Milestone (aminopyralid) is a solid long-term choice for non-crop areas. Great control on ragweed, lasts a long time, and doesn’t harm grasses. Just be cautious with manure from treated areas if you're using hay or compost later. Also watch drift — it’s powerful stuff even at low rates.
Dicamba is another option, but not near Enlist beans — too risky.
For a longer-term pre option next spring, consider something like Esplanade or Plateau — expensive but very effective on pathways and non-crop areas. Esplanade has long soil activity, almost like a bareground product but easier on grass.
If you want to go clean and stay that way, consider burning down the stretch with glyphosate + Milestone early, and spot-treat escapes during summer. You could also overseed a competitive grass like brome or fescue to help suppress future ragweed flushes.
Since you’re only dealing with a ¼ mile and have flexible tools, a targeted Milestone program with a wand might be the lowest-labor, highest-impact long-term solution. | |
