East of Broken Bow
I think you hit the nail on the head.

The guys who get the winters off to spend time puttering around in the shop putting the 83rd layer of wax on their 4020s that they only drive in parades seem to get new pickups every few years pretty steady. The ones who spend all winter starting that old 4020 every day keeping the cattle fed and alive drive the old beaters - except every once in a while they hit a 'boom' time, and upgrade. All you have to do to see when the boom and bust cycles of the cattle industry are is come out to the sandhills and look at what is parked at the auction barn on sale day. Last time I was there, I saw a bunch of brand new pickups and trailers, a bunch of 10-12 year old trucks and trailers, and some 30-ish year old trucks and trailers, with not much in between. Prettty easy to pick out what were the boom years because of the clumps of trucks/trailers that are all the same age.
