I always took them out as a good chance the ball joint at the skid plate is worn loose out too.
I always removed the sickle bar and end divider but can be done if just removing the first 5 or 6 bolts holding
the sickle bar to the skids. I always took it all apart as there was ALWAYS something else wrong -
steel lip broken off stainless pans, broken supports for the skids, and so on. If your head is a 1998-2002 model
years I found lots of these A-Arms broken. Deere came out with a beefier design to fix them. Good Luck too.
