As a fellow pumpkin grower, i would use medium red clover. Makes great hay, cover crop, and grazing. My problem with alfalfa is it is very competitive, and it sucks up every last drop of water.


Ah I see, I assume the clover will still go to seed even after being mowed for hay before? I have a straight through combine that can harvest these. I've heard some hay crops won't go to seed after being mowed for hay or is that snake oil
