Chris & "new parts man", thanks for the responses. Glad to hear of the abilities to send texts or photo info.

What about my peeve for i.d.'ing the parts person with a name when they answer customer phone? Not just...."PARTS..."?

Sometimes, after i.d.'ing myself with my real name, I ask the parts person on the other end, 'who am I speaking with?". Their answer is still..."This is PARTS, can I help you...."

Their ambiguity is needlessly obvious.

50 years ago there was no need to ask name of parts person. He was the same guy that had been there for 30+ years already. Today high turnover rate seems common in most cases.

To each their own?

My employees answer the phone with their name...however if I'm helping in parts, I answer as simply Parts...because, I get about 150 phone calls a day, and my normal job is Service...so I prefer to just say parts if they call back they can get BACK to the parts guys.

So, if your JOB is Parts, then give your name...me, I prefer to say Parts so that I don't confuse customers. I also help in Sales when the guys are out or too busy, so I'm maybe a special case.

Chris
