Veg production makes me annoyed. We've got some of the best soils in the world here in the midwest but hardly any processers want to set up.

And you don't even need hand labor to harvest many of these.

There is some production in the region for peas, green beans, sweet corn, potatoes, and cucumbers. They are all harvested by machine. pumpkins I think are hand harvest still. And I know tons of farmers wanting to get the contracts, but the processors can only handle so much.

Imported fruit and veg have so little restrictions when it comes to pesticide residue too. Other countries to the south... cheap land, cheap labor, spray whatever you want... hard to compete with.
