I wonder if the church owns the land and rented the land and they financed the cattle and provide the labor. Or maybe rented the land from someone else.
We rent a couple thousand acres from the church, here.
I'm sure they worked at Deseret for 2 years and hope they didn't learn how to ranch there. But it sounds like that's where he learned to be a rancher.
Timing is everything. He might have got in at the perfect time.
