| I used to work in a NH3 plant as an operator. We learned quickly where to hold your breath as you walked or ran down the main alley between all the processes going on.
One of the main areas to hold your breath was when going by the aqua pots.
If you were feeling a little onery, and were leading a trainee, a temporary, a maintenance or engineer personnel down the alley, you wouldn't warn them ahead of time and watch how they reacted as you walked thru the aqua pot area no problem, looking back like what the heck is the matter with you.
It was always good to know which way the wind was blowing, especially in case a +500 psi NH3 pressure relief vent went off.
As bad as the normal NH3 fumes were in the plant, if you got a whiff of aqua, you couldn't shake it off nearly as quickly. | |
