| I'm guessing they're over-producing so they had to idle turbines to allow other contracted generators to continue feeding.
There's no way I'd be able to find it, but some time ago someone here laid out that some generators are contracted to produce X amounts of power per period. Or in other words, they'll get paid whether they produce that power or not. So financially it may make sense to idle renewables; just depends on how all of the contracts are laid out.
I know when I was checking the Southwest Power Pool on Saturday wind was hovering right around 50% of the generation mix. | |
