I have seen the sides of the guards ground off to make a sharp edge, trouble is further you go in the softer they will most likely be. Personally you could not give me a set of long guards, I have 2 - 1120 Hesstons with stub guards, never plugs, just plain cuts at 6 mph, can go faster, but too hard on the old body.
