We had one a couple of those things and I hated them !
The stupid overlapping upside down knives in The middle ugh. We had rocks so if you hit one it would inevitably be right in the middle and screw everything up.
Had a hesston after the 499 and it would cut circles around the 499
I turned the last one we had into a double rake hitch by stripping it down to the frame. I took the header and and rest of it to the scrap yard where they fed it right into the shredder off my trailer and I watched it get reduced into little bits and pieces of yellow and red. That was one of my most satisfying moments of karma I think I’ve ever experienced!

New holland 499 question.
