Fontanelle, IA | I’ve only lost young calves to either tetanus or the “milk scours” intestinal shredding clostridial strain. The milk scours “type” seemed to come on hard in early April (when I was calving at end of feb) and pushing lots of high quality alfalfa and corn silage into momma who was making lots of milk. Then, a few 2-3 day rainy/muddy/sloppy/windy cycles would have calves yo-yoing on eating and bags would swell……. That’s what my vet said when we’d post a dead one. Seems to me though that 14 days after the 1st alpha 7 shot, you should have decent antibody response
I’ve lost 400 # calves to blackleg on drought dormant grass pasture where everything was grazing short/into the dirt - but young calves don’t graze that “much” when their little.
Rough geographic Location might help get you some localized advice.
