Subject: More

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
The purpose of the third wire is to activate a relay inside the motor housing to send the correct polarity to the motor to cause it to OPEN the ball valve. When the trigger wire is at 12VDC, the relay becomes active and the motor opens the valve. When the trigger wire is not at 12VDC (floats) the relay relaxes, the polarity reverses and the ball valve closes.

This makes wiring one of these valves fairly simple. Constant power to the red wire, constant ground to the black wire and a simple switch to turn the white trigger wire ON or OFF.

The OP has found that he does not need the trigger wire. Since there is no connection to the trigger wire his relay will never become active and reverse the polarity to the motor. The output to the motor will be dependent on the inputs.

His polarity reversing switch handles that. Since it handles the polarity reversing itself, the internal relay is not needed for its polarity reversing ability. It just passes through the polarity it receives from the outside world.

The OP could replace his polarity reversing switch and just use a common one to control the white wire but this is not necessary since it seems to be working fine.
