Subject: RE: Plane messing with my GPS??

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I have to differ with Ron on interference between two-way communication radios and GPS reception. My first (long time ago) planting system used an Ag Leader Insight that was getting its GPS from a Trimble 332 using Omnistar for correction at that time.

We had two-way radios in the tractors and trucks for communication. I would quite predictably lose GPS in the planting tractor when I would transmit. Receiving was fine. I told my Coworkers that they could call me with a message but I wouldn't reply for fear of losing GPS while I was planting.

Later we got rid of the two-way radios and use cell phones for communication. Our GPS systems evolved to newer models also. We have not had problems of this sort since

But back to the OP. I don't believe any radio transmissions from a plane flying overhead would have caused his problem. Even if the pilot was transmitting on his communication radio, the plane would have been a considerable distance from the operator on the ground. Maybe some type of GPS Jammer exists but that seems very unlikely.

Our problem was only when the transmitting radio and the GPS were right beside each other in the same vehicle. Relocating the two-way antenna to the corner of the grain tank extension on the combine seemed to help. Best thing was getting rid of the two-way radios.
