I have read your posts for years, and ways enjoyed and respected your POV. That hasn't changed, but your emotions have clouded your judgment on this subject. In one of your posts above you copy/pasted an excerpt to back up your claim that "its not illegal to be in this country undocumented." But it is in fact. What you're trying to argue is that being here illegally shouldn't negate due process. Maybe, maybe not, idk, thats a courts issue. The other thing you keep letting get in the way of a logical argument is your feelings for local families. I have NO DOUBT that you know many productive and upstanding memebers of society who have raised awesome children who are legal citizens. That doesn't change the fact that they came here, or stayed here illegally. They may not speak/read/write English, but their 4.0 gpa child certainly does. That means that they simply decided NOT TO PURSUE their legal status because it was inconvenient and expensive. I happen to know a Hispanic gentleman, extremely nice guy with a sizeable family, who lives here in my hometown. He's illegal. He worked under the table for a number of people the past 20 yrs. He is now running his own welding and fence building business. In the past two years, he's run two guys out of business by undercutting their bids habitually. I'll feel bad for his wife and kids if he gets deported, but he's had plenty of chances to make it right.
I had some more to add, but lost my train of thought during dinner with the family...ultimately, the entire system needs to be overhauled. I mean that from our immigration through to our welfare state. If more people needed to actually work to put food in their mouths, there would be less need for illegal workers. | |
