Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | As you are aware the 440/450 controllers do not have auto swath capabilities. The operator shuts sections ON/OFF with his fingers. This does two things 1) opens/closes the actual section valve and 2) informs the program in the 440/450 as to whether a section is ON/OFF. This is necessary so the 440/450 can make its rate calculations correctly based on the widths of the sections that are ON at any given time.
For auto swath with a Raven 440/450 there are two general approaches:
1) remove and replace the Raven 440/450 with another device that has the ability to work with rate control and auto swath. There are several choices. I happen to be partial to using an Ag Leader display and two of their modules. Other choices involve using a product called EZ-Boom that works with older Trimble displays. It was made to drop right into the Raven wiring you already have for your Raven 440/450. This product is discontinued. A product called Field IQ can work with your 750. Deere and other companies have their own solutions which often involve using one of their displays and an external module.
2) continue to use the 440/450 but leave the sections switches OFF and have another device in between the Raven and the actual boom valves to control them based on a coverage map. With this arrangement this extra device decides when a section should be ON and sends 12V to it to actually turn the section valve ON AND also sends 12V back into the Raven 440/450 so it can perform its calculations correctly based on the width being covered. With this arrangement, the rate control functions etc. are still controlled by the 440/450 as before but the other device is in effect flipping the section switches for you.
I am not familiar with the various prices since there are several combinations that could work for you. Field IQ might be a reasonable fit for your situation. I have not personally used it but have been disappointed with some of Trimble's attempts.
Some combinations might be more expensive but allow you to do other things with the displays. For example with my Ag Leader components, the display is used with the planter, sprayer, manure rig and combine.
Simple, cheap, reliable and readily available rarely go together.
