Subject: RE: Agitator valve after Greenstar rate controller conversion

Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
That switch is correct for this situation. I refer to it as the Criss-Cross wiring pattern. Another name is a motor reversing switch which is what you need. The switch is called a Double Pole Double Throw Momentary. When released, the handle should return to the center by a spring. The operator can hold the button down one way to open the agitator valve or the other way to close it.

The yellow pointer should move. This gives you an indication of how far the ball is open.

Notice the switch has 6 terminals but the upper left terminal is connected to the lower right terminal. The upper right terminal is connected to the lower left terminal. To make your agitator valve open a bit you need to send + on one wire and - on the other wire. This will cause the motor to turn clock wise. To make your agitator valve close a bit you need to send - to that first wire and + on the other wire. This will cause the valve to turn counterclockwise. Most of the time those wires are neither + or - so the motor doesn't run and the ball valve stays at its present position.

One way to use your switch would be to run 12V from a key switched source to one of the upper terminals. The bar will be connecting it to the opposite lower terminal.. Connect Ground to the remaining upper terminal. Again the criss cross bar will be connecting it to the remaining lower terminal. Connect the agitator motor to the center terminals of the switch. The third wire to the switch likely needs to go to a constant ground.

My guess is the red and white are the wires from the switch and the black must be constant ground. My color guesses may be incorrect. Maybe the red is constant 12V and the white and black are the pair that go to the center of your switch. Some trial and error may be necessary. Our Hagie uses this exact arrangement but I'm not certain of the color code for the wires.

Try the switch, if it seems to move and work but the switch action seems backwards swap the two middle wires and try again.
