West Central IA | There was a period of about 6 years after I went to work in town that I got rid of most of my cows. I kept 6 because I needed something to eat the grass around the place. I really missed having the herd that took years to build but As I get older I realized that I have ground that needs to be in hay or pasture. I am now at around 50 cows again. I changed my calving time to late May so I was not fighting the weather and interfering with planting. I should have done that years ago. So much easier and less stress for the cows and calves. My wife and I spend time in the evening just watching the cows and calves being themselves. | |
