I assume his view is in relation to dairy farms. Just a quick mention, 30 years ago you could start a dairy with 30-40 of your own cows, make a living raise a family and expand. Nowadays the big guy adds 500 cows like it’s nothing, while someone starting with 50 cows works off farm and can’t expand to full time, all while running the risk of being ditched by the milk buyer in favor of the larger operation(who uses cheap illegal labor).
When I was a senior in high school (1977) the average dairy herd was 37 cows,
Wisconsin had over 48,000 dairy farms.
